Before this laptop I had a Sony VAIO. As an opener it has to be said that this laptop is a fantastic value for price. Compared to the VAIO it feels cheaper in terms of its construction, but it’s also lighter so I guess that’s the trade-off. Nice amount of RAM, plenty of storage, built-in WebCam, nice stereo surround sound coming out of the built-in speakers, a 64-bit Windows 7 OS, 16 x9 large show. In other words, it’s Skype and multimedia ready. The touch-pad has some cool built-in finger strokes for scrolling web-pages and documents up and down and side to side as well and zoom in and out just like an iPhone. The extra numeric keypad is also excellent thing on the keyboard, although the off-center touch-pad takes some getting used to.
I like the layout of where the inputs are by the side of the laptop sides. For example two USB ports on the left side of the laptop as well as on the right. I still like using a mouse and on the Sony laptops for example all of the USB ports were on the right side which predestined that if I sought after to use a thumb drive it was sticking out on the right side and I would bump into it with my mouse all the time. Overall this is a well-designed and quick laptop with a nice-looking show – but not exact. There are a few annoyances. One of the most annoying things is the latch point to open the lid. It’s too smooth and recessed, very hard to grab and slide and lift the lid at the same time to open the laptop. The array has the same problem. Unless you use a screwdriver or have long strong males it’s quite a struggle to try to take it out of the laptop. (Also, right now the screen doesn’t come back on if I sleep the laptop by closing the lid and opening up again – I’m still investigating this issue whether this is window seven or a laptop problem…)
The other usual annoyances that come with most laptops are 2 things: stickers galore (!) I know that manufacturers do this for retail show, but one has to spend quite a bit of time cleaning off all the promotional stickers all over their laptop. most of them are designed to be peeled off lacking residue, but in this case there was one next to the built-in WebCam that I had to struggle with and clean with chemicals, so it didn’t leave a sticky mark. The other is all the pre-installed junk software with 30 day trials and so on. But, all one has to do is spend about an hour uninstalling everything that one doesn’t need.
As mentioned before this is a feature packed nice-looking well-designed computer that is a excellent value for what it cost.
