Dell’s cheap products don’t last long, this piece of junk lasted about 6 months and Dell’s warranty covers nothing except maybe a cosmic implosion.

I got my Dell Studio 1555 two days ago, and haven’t even turned it on yet (been busy reading all the horrible reviews on the Dell Community site (problems with EVERYTHING).
Anyway, I was absolutely astounded by the moronic point of the adapter/array charger. The plug-in cord that attaches to the array on one end and has the three-prong plug on the other (to plug into the wall), is only three feet long! (I’ve never seen one shorter than six feet before.) It’s really shorter than that because the cord is fix-routed over the length of the adapter, rather than allowing it to come straight out the end of the adapter.
So, if you want to use the adapter by droping the cord owing to a desk cord slot, you need an extension cord to plug the darn thing into the wall — absolutely stupid point.

I am not being over dramamtic either.
Until I sent an email to the BOARD OF DIRECTORS at Dell and one of the Officers I would spend as much as 2hrs 45minutes trying to get answers and service to my laptop.
This kind of irresponsible customer support was the norm.
The reps would pass me by the side of for 2 hours or MORE; and I was still dissatisfied.
I had my Dell Studio for less than 6 months when it would not turn on.
I am th only one that uses it, had never removed it from my home and treated it with TLC.
Well hours were spent REPEATING the same report, answering the SAME QUESTIONS, being transferred from Rep to Rep….HOURS!
They finally sent out a local Tech and he could not fix it. He told me that it is not unusual for Dell to dispatch “malfunctioning” replacement parts. Imagine…”not unusual”.
More time spent and NO resolution to the problem.
More time on the phone. More getting tossed from Rep to Rep.
Finally I was sent a box to return the laptop to Dell for
More lost time time to get collectively with FEDEX-twice, outgoing and incoming.
I finally received the laptop back and it was a disgrace. INK MARKS ON THE COVER, DENTS TO THE INTERIOR PLASTIC PARTS, STICKY DROPS ON THE KEYBOARD.
Here we go again.
HOURS on the phone and they finally agree to have the parts replaced. Sure???
The local tech called twice. Both time disregarding the phone number I requested they use and the TIMES I told Dell I would be available.
When I called DELL (more time WASTED) on the phone to inquire about getting the service technician
to call me back, Dell informed me that the local tech. had sent everything back stating that he had called FOUR TIMES lacking a callback. Outright lie.
Hours later the SUPERVISOR agreed to call me with details of service call. NEVER HAPPENED.
Now the SAME local technician, repeats his routine of mission at the incorrect time and mission the incorrect phone !
Did I say 2hrs 45minutes? 4 Reps just to REPEAT the same information 4 different times and to be told in the end that I could call the Tech Dispatch to arrange an appt for service call.
It finally took an INDEPENDENT, NON-Dell contractor to fix the laptop.
DON’T Buy Dell unless you like the most terrible customer service imaginable and a faulty computer.

I bought this for my nephew who is getting ready for college next year. The laptop is fantastic, but Windows 7 is proving somewhat hard to learn/navigate. I’m sure it will get better with practice.

I have just gotten this laptop. I got mine on sale at the microsoft store online for a fantastic price. Mine was $635 and its new, it has Windows 7, 4gb memory, 500gb hard drive and came with the 9 cell array. Many colors to chose from. Also from getting it from Microsoft, they got rid of all the unneccesary programs that were installed on it from Dell.
Very simple simple to set up, because just about everything was done for me. I just had to turn it on, enter my name and info and then go to the Dell website and transfer the warranty, very simple.
This is my second Dell Laptop, my first one was terrific, so I thought about getting another Inspirion, but I sought after something a small different so I chose on the Studio 1555 and I am so glad I did.
Very simple to use, I like the long array life. I really like the cd player, so much better than having a tray come out. I like the mouse pad and the wider or longer keyboard on the Studio vs. the Inspirion I had
I read some terrible reviews, but I figured I would give the laptop a try, it is under warranty so if I have any problems I know Dell will fix it up for me.
Cons: none yet
